That Geraldo. He is always getting himself in the middle of some kind of controversy, isn't he? I remember in his talk show days he got in a fight on the air with a skinhead. Fists and chairs were flying, and Geraldo ended up with a broken nose. Once during a live broadcast, he drew a map in the sand revealing his exact location when he was embedded with a military contingent in Iraq. Then there is the infamous prime time special opening Capone's vault live to reveal the buried treasure that unfortunately didn't exist.
Now he is making headlines again. It seems he has spoken out about the tragic Trayvon Martin case. Rivera said, "His hoodie killed Trayvon Martin as surely as George Zimmerman did." Now, of course, there is a lot to be said about people's paranoia regarding seeing someone with a hood pulled over his head. However, the phrasing is so inflammatory.
Like so many other issues where Rivera is involved, this one is likely to incite a lot of heated reactions. I suppose it is his personality type that makes him feel like he has to do things in a way that will provoke the most emotional reaction out of people. However, he does seem to always draw the wrong kind of attention, and I'm afraid this prevents people from taking his views seriously. Perhaps he doesn't really care whether people agree with him, though. Maybe provoking a reaction is an end in itself for him. If so, then he has "succeeded" once again!
