I started noticing it about a week or two ago. At first it
was the commercials on television that caught my eye. There was something about a girl standing up and
saying she would volunteer for something or other. I had no idea what she meant, but it seemed like
she was getting herself into a real mess in order to save some other younger girl. Presumably her sister?
As the days went by and these commercials seemed to be all
over the TV, I started paying a little closer attention and began to get the
gist of the story. Apparently the younger sister is selected to play in a game
(the "Hunger Game") that involves a fight to the death! Wow! No
wonder her older sister steps up and volunteers to take her place. Of course,
now her life is on the line.
Now I notice these last couple of days that I am surrounded by Hunger
Games info coming from all around me instead of just from my television. I see
headlines on my online news feed about the movie. When I load the Google News page, there it is again. Even my NPR broadcast had
some coverage about it today.
It really looks like this movie is shaping up to be the next big
thing. Already there are reports that Fandango is selling 10 tickets a second
for the Hunger Games! That's incredible to me. I'm not sure whether I will
personally be seeing this movie, but I am certain I will continue to hear about
it from every corner of my world for the foreseeable future!
