Although it has been nearly 30 years ago, I still remember the absolute beauty of those cherry blossoms like it was just yesterday. I hope someday I can return when they are at their height and that time attend the Cherry Blossom Festival, too.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual tradition that runs a whole month long and is full of fun activities. This year I read that some of the events will be a parade, a dinner cruise, a Pink Tie Party, Jazz at the Jefferson and a family festival. It sounds like a fun and exciting event. I can imagine strolling along the Mall, stopping in at the Smithsonian and walking down to the Tidal Basin, all the while taking in the gorgeous sights and scents of those delicate, pink blossoms.
The nice thing is that once you get there, most of the events are free for the public to attend and enjoy. So the trick is just saving my pennies to be able to afford the transportation and lodging. Perhaps 2013 or 2014 will be my year to return and soak in the springtime ambiance once again. I need to start my "Some Day" fund today so I can get there one of these years soon!
