When I read that there was an urgent
severe weather message issued for tonight in San Diego for snow, rain and wind,
I could barely believe it. They were calling for snow in the mountains in San
Diego??? That's insane! They are even calling for everyone to use chains in the
mountains starting at 5:00 tonight. This is some strange weather San Diego is
having, especially for this time of year. It's almost April, for goodness sake.
The heavy rains earlier today
contributed to a bunch of car wrecks. Some of them were pretty major. There was
a wreck on the 405 that involved seven cars. Another crash just down the road a
half hour later ended up with two cars bursting into flames. There was mud and
standing water on the 110 and the 10. There were also reports of some flooding
in different areas. What a mess this storm is creating.
The storms even affected another
NASCAR race. A few weeks ago, the Daytona 500 had been plagued by rain delays
and other problems. Now once again a NASCAR race, the Auto Club 500 Fontana,
was affected by the heavy rains. This time they finally had to just call off
the race. The leader at that moment was Tony Stewart, so they just declared him
the winner.
Thank goodness they are calling for
warmer temperatures and no more rain for the rest of the week. There will
likely be a lot of fog and haze in the morning, but after that clears San Diego
should be back to its normal weather for this time of year.
